This course focuses on the communicative approach to the teaching of the English language. Through materials created or adapted specifically to this context, the teacher will provide thought-provoking situations in which the students will feel the urge or the need to participate and feel engaged in the activities suggested in the lessons. The focus will be on productive skills (Speaking and Writing), although an integrated skills is necessary and unavoidable. A text may lead to a writing task or a listening activity may be used as motivation for a discussion or role-play.
The ultimate objective of this course is to provide an English-speaking environment where students feel comfortable as non-native speakers to express themselves and to provide them with a degree of independence and confidence needed to attend conferences abroad, to participate in international research projects and even, in some cases, to teach in English.
