The goal of this subject is that the students develop knowledge that allows them to:
- understand the physics of mechanical vibrations;
- apply methods - including methods that are used in computational mechanics - to obtain equations of motion of structures and mechanical systems;
- transform partial differential equations of motion into ordinary eq. motion;
- understand algorithms to solve eigenvalue problems, necessary to obtain natural frequencies and natural mode shapes of vibration;
- apply methods, including computational methods, for solving ordinary differential equations of motion;
- analyse and characterize the oscillatory motion of mechanical systems and structures.
